Improving Access to Inclusive Sports for Children with Physical Disabilities in Somerset: A Quality Improvement Project

Synopsis: This quality improvement project aimed to improve access to inclusive sports for children with physical disabilities in Somerset. Following service mapping and stakeholder surveys involving Somerset Community Paediatrics teams as well as local GP surgeries and schools,

a centralised leaflet was created to address key access barriers.

Numerical simulation of a Community Paediatric Service: Exploring the Models

Synopsis: Using Python, it is feasible to explore how workforce make up, referral rates, clinic appointment type and follow up rates impact waiting times, dependant on the age and diagnostic distributions in a community paediatric service population.

What Does it Take? Understanding the timeline to diagnostic confidence in assessing for autism among UK community paediatricians

Synopsis: 108 subspeciality trainees (ST5-8) and recently appointed consultant community paediatricians (first 3 years) were surveyed to establish how confident they feel in assessing children with possible autism; results showing that confidence improved with experience, but that even more experienced consultants lacked confidence in managing more complex presentations.

System stressful, Human helpful – a qualitative interview of barriers to medication faced by parents and carers of children with complex neurodisability

Synopsis: This study highlights system-wide barriers to medication procurement which negatively impact carer well-being through isolation and lack of support, providing details of resilience strategies families have developed to navigate these challenges and the opportunities for clinicians to intervene and alleviate this burden.

How much does it cost to assess a child for ADHD in the NHS?

Synopsis: This study suggests it takes a median of 6.76 hours of clinical time to assess a child for ADHD in the NHS, costing a median of £433.08 per child.
